If you plan your shopping trip well, have a shopping list in hand, a budget, and keep the tips below in mind, you'll be sure to save money!

1. Choose the right shopping cart.

A big shopping cart will tempt you to fill it up so pick up a small shopping basket if you are planning to buy just a few things.

2. Stick to the main aisles.

Most people go done all the aisles to make sure they didn't forget anything, however this will tempt you to buy the foods that you don't need.

3. Check expiry dates.

Nothing prevents you from looking for items at the back of the shelf to get foods with the longest expiry dates in order to prevent waste.

4. Look at the top and bottom shelves.

The most popular and most expensive items are placed at eye level. The shelves that are the least visible have the most affordable products.

5. Compare Items.

Check the indications for quantity when making a purchase. Compare the unit price example: 100g or 100ml, not only the sale price in order to buy the most worth it option.

6. Alternate brands in your shopping cart.

House brands have now improved alot while improving their quality. Even though we don't find them in all product lines, generic brands offer good quality price ratio.

7. Buy less processed food.

Precut fruit and vegtables and ready to eat foods are all expensive products. The more processed, the more expensive.

8. Start using frozen fruit and vegetables.

This allows you to benefit from good fruit and vegtables all year long and at a reasonable price.

9. Avoid impulsive temptations.

According to one study, adding smells to a store increases by 80%. Not many people dislike the smell of freshly baked bread. Its more pleasant to do groceries when it smells good.

10. Music

The slower & more pleasant the music is, the more time you take in the store therefore end up buying more. On the other hand, if the store is playing fast music, you'll make impulse buys. That is why it is important to try to focus on your shopping list & if you want bring your own music!

11. Labels.

Try not to buy products which have a list of words too difficult to pronounce. Compare the original product with the one with 40% less fat, for example. Food that is "light" doesn't mean it's healthy because in order to get less fat, some manufacturers often compensate with sugar or other harmful ingredients to preserve texture & trash.

12. Temptations at the cash.

The temptations are there to get you to spend more money before leaving. Don't fall for the temptation!
